About Pheasant Run Pony Farm
In 2001 we built our forever house on 12 acres of family land. The 12 acres was surrounded by 80 acres that was placed in the government set aside program and had not produced a crop in years. We continued to think about a purpose of the land with the idea of making it family friendly. We built a barn and sold our boat that was rarely used and bought some fencing for a couple horses. On April 8th, 2003 we purchased of a spotted horse we called "Coach." Later that year, we made a trip to Ohio and purchased a buckskin
quarter horse as Coach's buddy. After a short period of time, we realized our kids were not able to be around the larger horses because of their large stature and our kid's small size. Coach and Rowdy were sold and we went to Nebraska in search of two American Shetland Ponies from Eldon McCall at Bellevue farm in December of 2004. We purchased a bred mare in foal to Rock and a small little stud colt. In May of 2005, we purchased a modern mare from Garry Brumm that was bred to Moose Meadow Te-Bone (Te-Bone's Rowdy Playgirl). Shortly after that, we purchased AGS Jeepers Creepers, AGS Cameo and AGS Class Act.
Our small breeding farm was now blossoming with the addition of proven mares and the excitement of the maturation of our future herd sire, Jeepers Creepers. During the next few years we added a few more mares and we soon began to watch our herd grow. We continue the pursuit of improving our modern breeding program every year and strive to produce ponies that can compete at the national level.
In 2007, we had a filly (Cindy Lou Who) win the yearling class at Congress and was junior runner-up. In 2008, we had a colt (Powerball) win the weanling class at Congress and the World Show. In 2007, our family went to Congress (Illinois) for the first time and Evan showed with Mike. Our individual results were nothing to brag about as we didn't have a clue about what we were doing. We attended Congress in 2008 and we gained experience but our individual results were not reflective of the caliber of ponies we brought. As Congress approaches in 2009 we have decided to place a few ponies with trainers and will show one or two just for the fun of it. We have to continue to remind ourselves that our farm is still in the beginning stages and we hope to add to the story, especially as our kids get older and begin their show careers in the near future.
